We are delighted that Lorne H. Blackbourne, MD, FACS, Chief of Trauma Service at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas has agreed to serve as our Guest Lecturer. Dr. Blackbourne will address the translation of military medical findings into civilian medicine. There will also be a panel discussion addressing this topic. Dr. Jeffrey Young, Professor of Surgery and Medical Director, Quality and Performance Improvement at the University of Virginia will discuss “Pay for Performance and External Regulation of Medical Care.”
The Guest Speaker for the Virginia Surgical Society will be Diane M. Simeone, M.D., Division Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Professor of Surgery, Molecular & Integrative Physiology and Associate Chair of Research at the University of Michigan. Dr. Simeone will discuss “Pancreatic Cancer Stem Cells: Implications for Treating Pancreatic Cancer” and “The Evolving Management of Cystic Tumors of the Pancreas.”
We hope that you will plan now to attend the annual meeting and that you will include your family. There will be tennis and golf offered at Westfields Resort. The Washington area offers a host of activities for you and your family to enjoy. We hope you will join us for a tour of the Steven V. Udvar-Hazy Center, the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum, on Saturday afternoon. Transportation will be provided. (The tour will be offered only if a minimum of 20 people sign up).
